Frequently Asked Questions

Everything practices ask before and after their first case: priorities, modalities, turnaround, reports, the platform and support.

If your question is not answered here, the Operations Team is reachable at any hour, and terms used throughout these answers are defined in the glossary.

Getting started

Are we required to sign a contract?

No. RadsForVets does not require a contract for teleradiology services. Payment is per case completed, with no sign-up fee and no long-term commitment.

Are we required to submit a minimum number of cases?

No. There are no minimum case submission requirements. Every practice has different needs, and you can submit as few or as many cases as you need.

How long does it take to start submitting cases?

Account setup is handled by the Operations Team and is deliberately light. Once your practice is set up on RADical you can upload a study and choose a priority on the same day.

Who can use the service?

Services are provided to licensed veterinary practices only. RadsForVets does not work directly with animal owners.

Submission priorities

What are the submission priorities?

Three: Standard, STAT and Wet Read. The priority is chosen case by case at the moment you submit, so the same practice can send a Standard recheck and a STAT emergency within minutes of each other.

What is a Wet Read?

A wet-read is one where the clinic submits targeted, indication-specific questions which are specifically addressed by the radiologist. The clinic can request that the radiologist either make a call, or send a 'wet-read' report. The same radiologist will provide the comprehensive final report before shift's end.

What is the turnaround for a STAT study?

STAT x-ray and fluoroscopy studies are returned in 1 hour. STAT CT, MR and Ultrasound studies are returned within 4 hours.

What is the turnaround for a Standard study?

Standard studies are returned within 24 hours, across every modality.

Do turnaround times apply to exotic patients?

STAT and Wet Read turnaround is not guaranteed for exotics. A 24-hour best-effort read applies to those cases instead.

Is a STAT case read by a different radiologist?

No. Every case, STAT or not, is read by an ACVR- or ECVDI-certified radiologist.

Modalities and species

Which modalities do you support?

X-ray, Ultrasound, CT, MR and fluoroscopy. Each modality has its own page describing what it answers and what to submit.

Which species do you read?

Dogs, cats and exotics.

Do you accept studies from any scanner or PACS?

Standard DICOM from any helical CT scanner is accepted, whatever the manufacturer, and studies can be sent from any PACS that exports standard DICOM.

Can I submit more than one modality on the same patient?

Yes, and it is usually better. Submitting radiographs and Ultrasound together as one case lets the radiologist read the full picture rather than half of it twice.

Reports and communication

How are your reports structured?

Prioritized diagnoses and recommendations first, followed by comprehensive findings. The conclusion sits near the top, like a journal abstract, so the clinical answer is the first thing you read rather than the last.

Can I speak to the radiologist who read my case?

Yes, through Real-Time Chat on the case itself. Each case carries separate threads for the clinic and radiologist, the clinic and Operations Team, and the radiologists and Operations Team, so a question reaches the right person in seconds without a phone call, voicemail or email chain.

Do reports ever include video?

Yes. Video is included in reports where it helps explain a finding, which is roughly 40 percent of the time. It is accessed through an icon and QR code in the report.

Do reports reach our practice software?

Reports inject into the matching radiology order in ezyVet and Instinct, and RadsForVets is constantly adding to that list of PIMS systems. Workflow, without the work.

Platform and support

Can my clinic use our current preferred browser?

Yes. The platform is compatible with all major browsers, so you can continue using the one you are most comfortable with.

Is 24/7 customer service support available?

Of course. We are always here, every day, every hour, to support your teleradiology needs. It's the same on Sunday at 3 AM as it is on Wednesday at 3 PM.

How large is the radiologist team?

Approximately 30 radiologists, spread globally, all ACVR- or ECVDI-certified.
